Philippians 2:2-3 ~ Let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. (Read in it's entirety, Philippians 2:1-11)
As believer's we are to look beyond ourselves and our interests and see the interests and needs of others. I love this saying as it is true, "What you make happen for others, God will make happen for you." Philippians 2:3-4 is not saying that you are to neglect your own needs and interests but we are to esteem others better than ourselves, think of others and ways to build them up in Christ.Jesus is the perfect example of esteeming others better than self for He laid down His life entire life for a entire world.
Jesus looked beyond our faults and saw the need, the need of salvation to a dying world. He knew that if we didn't have the choice of "Eternal Life" that we would be doomed for eternal damnation. I'm so thankful that He saw the need of mankind more important than Himself. Jesus truly has a heart of concern for a world undeserving. One reason why its so hard for people to put other's before themselves or make the needs and interests of importance is that so many are focusing on the FAULTS and ignoring the NEED.
As children of God we must be like Jesus and look beyond the faults of others for it is then and only then that one will be concerned about someone elses needs and interests. The decision is in the heart, our heart must be right and lined up with the Word of God. Do you have a concerned heart? or Is it one that's focused on the faults of others?I encourage you to seek a concerned heart if you don't already have one. Having a concerned heart does the body good, you can trust me on that. When we attend to the needs of others, we honor Christ!
Quote: Love thyself last. Look near, behold thy duty to those who walk beside thee down life's road. Make glad their days by little acts of beauty and help them bear the burden of earth's load (Wilcox).
Remember: What you make happen for others, God will make happen for you!
